Does my file get uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is read and analyzed entirely in your browser using JavaScript — the file itself is never sent anywhere.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated using an average adult silent-reading speed of 200 words per minute. Actual reading time varies by document complexity and reader.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Only if the scanned PDF already has a text layer (for example, from OCR). A pure image scan with no embedded text will show a word count of zero — run it through an OCR tool first to add a searchable text layer.
What counts as a "word"?
Any sequence of characters separated by whitespace, matching how most word processors count words.
