How to Delete Pages from a PDF (Remove Blank Pages, Covers, or Any Page)

· · · 5 min read

Blank pages at the end of a PDF, a cover sheet you don't need, or a fax header from 2011 — whatever the unwanted page, removing it takes under a minute. No paid software required.

How to Delete Pages from a PDF with PDFlexa

  1. Go to Delete Pages from PDF
  2. Upload your PDF
  3. Thumbnails of all pages appear — click the X on any page you want to delete
  4. Click Apply
  5. Download the new PDF with those pages removed

Pages are processed entirely in your browser — the file is never sent to a server.

Tip: You can select and delete multiple pages at once. Click additional page thumbnails while they're highlighted to build your selection before clicking Apply.

If you want to keep only certain pages (the reverse of deleting), it's faster to use Split PDF:

  1. Go to Split / Extract Pages
  2. Upload your PDF
  3. Enter the page range you want to keep (e.g., 2-8 to keep pages 2 through 8)
  4. Click Extract
  5. Download the resulting PDF

This is quicker than manually clicking individual delete buttons on a 50-page document.

How to Remove Blank Pages from a PDF

Blank pages are common when:

  • Printing double-sided generates an empty back page
  • A Word document has a trailing empty paragraph that became a page
  • A combined PDF has section dividers

To remove them:

  1. Open Delete Pages from PDF
  2. Scroll through the thumbnails — blank pages appear as white rectangles
  3. Click the X on each blank page
  4. Download the result

If you have many blank pages spread throughout a large document: it may be faster to convert to Word first (PDF to Word), delete the blank pages in Word (View → Draft to see page breaks easily), and then convert back to PDF.

Same process as removing any other page — just delete page 1:

  1. Upload to Delete Pages from PDF
  2. Click the X on the first page thumbnail
  3. Download

The remaining pages renumber automatically (page 2 becomes page 1, etc.).

How to Remove the Last Page(s) of a PDF

If a contract has a signature page you're not supposed to keep, or a fax has a confirmation page appended:

  1. Upload to Delete Pages from PDF
  2. Scroll to the last page thumbnail and click X
  3. Download

Or use Split PDF to extract pages 1 through N-1 (excluding the last page).

Deleting Pages from a Password-Protected PDF

You cannot modify a protected PDF until you unlock it:

  1. Use Unlock PDF and enter the document password
  2. Download the unlocked copy
  3. Upload it to Delete Pages from PDF
  4. Remove the pages and download

If the PDF has a permissions password (restricts editing but not viewing), the same process applies — Unlock → Delete Pages.

Deleting Pages from a Large PDF (100+ Pages)

For very large PDFs, browser-based tools load all page thumbnails into memory. If your browser slows down:

  1. Split the PDF into smaller chunks with Split PDF — e.g., pages 1–50 and 51–100
  2. Delete the target pages from each chunk
  3. Merge the chunks back together with Merge PDF

This approach is faster and avoids browser memory issues.

What About Rearranging Pages Instead of Deleting?

If you want to reorder pages (move page 3 to position 1, etc.) rather than delete:

  • Use Organize PDF — shows all pages as draggable thumbnails you can rearrange freely before saving

Frequently Asked Questions

Does deleting a page from a PDF change the quality of other pages? No. Pages in a PDF are independent units. Removing a page has zero effect on the content, resolution, or quality of the remaining pages.

Can I undo deleting a page from a PDF? Once you download the modified PDF, the deleted page is gone. Always keep a copy of the original before making changes. PDFlexa processes files in your browser — your original file on your computer is never modified.

Will page numbers in the PDF update automatically after I delete pages? If the page numbers are text printed on the page (e.g., "Page 3 of 10"), they do NOT update automatically — you'd need to edit the document to fix them. PDF page numbers in the viewer (the ones in the sidebar or toolbar) always renumber automatically.

Can I delete pages from a scanned PDF? Yes. Page deletion works regardless of whether the PDF is scanned or text-based — you're removing entire page objects, not editing text.

What's the difference between deleting a page and redacting it? Deleting removes the entire page from the document. Redacting removes specific content from a page while keeping the page itself in the document. If you want to black out sensitive text but keep the page, use Redact PDF.

How do I delete every other page (e.g., all odd pages)? There's no automatic "delete all odd pages" option in the browser tool. If you have a large document and need to do this, open Organize PDF to view all thumbnails and manually select the pages you need to keep, then use Split/Extract to save only those.
